Isak Åkerlund has a background as an in-house designer for the classic Swedish toybrand BRIO. During his years with BRIO he was the lead designer for several product assortments and marketing projects. He made a huge influence on BRIO's design direction and played a main role in building up a new in-house design department.
With "BRIO Network" in 2006 he moved the classic toy brand established 1884 into the computer-age with a collection of wooden toys set in a digital landscape. The assortment was awarded with the Right Start Awards "Best miniature World" & "Overall Best" in the U.K.
The "BRIO Metro" launched in 2011 was awarded with "Toy of the year" in Sweden, Germany & Finland. This marked a successful new design strategy for the classic wooden railway which re-established BRIO into the leading market position for this category.
Isak Åkerlund's graduation project from Central Saint Martins, the animated short film "The Art of Darkness", was made in collaboration with the National Gallery in London and received University of the Arts and Lowe & Partners NOVA Award for "Fresh creative talent".
